From the Studio
This cardinal was created following a trip to Florida, alongside a companion heron piece. Spending time in a different landscape — with its distinct light, vegetation, and birdlife — shifted the way I approached line, space, and subject.
The craft-coloured card was on hand when inspiration hit. Watercolor was applied to enhance depth while preserving the honesty of the paper beneath.
Birds often appear in my work as moments of pause — present, alert, and grounded in their environment. This cardinal reflects that stillness: a brief, vivid encounter translated into paper, color, and shadow.
